Does this sound familiar?
-
Your child’s anxiety is beginning to affect everyday family life.
-
You find yourself constantly providing reassurance.
-
Family routines revolve around avoiding your child’s fears.
-
You’ve tried everything you can think of, but nothing seems to help for long.
-
You’re exhausted and wondering if you’re helping—or accidentally making things worse.
The good news is that you have tremendous power to help their children overcome anxiety—even if their child isn’t ready or willing to participate in therapy.
What Is SPACE?
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is an evidence-based treatment developed at the Yale Child Study Center that helps parents support children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related challenges.
Unlike traditional therapy, SPACE works with parents—not the child. Parents learn practical strategies to respond supportively while gradually reducing the accommodations that can unintentionally keep anxiety going.
As parents change the way they respond to anxiety, children often become more confident, independent, and better able to face their fears.
What You’ll Learn
In the SPACE Parent Program, you’ll learn how to:
-
Support your child without reinforcing anxiety
-
Reduce accommodations in a gradual, compassionate way
-
Respond to reassurance-seeking with confidence
-
Help your child build resilience and independence
-
Manage difficult moments without escalating conflict
-
Feel more confident in your parenting
You don’t need to be perfect—you just need the right tools.
